CSCPA to Testify Before Department of Public Safety Regarding Additional Regulation of Forensic Accountants in Connecticut

Department Seeks to Require Private Detective Licensure for Forensic Accounting Services

The Department of Public Safety is currently considering whether or not a number of professional services, including computer forensic examinations, pre-employment screening, mystery shopper services, and forensic accounting or similar services should be required to be licensed as a private detective in Connecticut.

The Connecticut Society of CPAs has been granted party status to the proceeding, which is the highest possible position in which to be. The Society will be testifying that accounting services provided by CPAs should be excluded from any such licensing requirement, based on the fact that the CPA profession is already strictly regulated by the Connecticut State Board of Accountancy.

Three CSCPA members are expected to appear before the Department of Public Safety on Wednesday, October 31 including CSCPA president John J. Palmeri, who will be providing CSCPA testimony, and practicing forensic accountants Richard Royston and CSCPA Advisory Council member Stephen Pedneault, all members of the CSCPA Valuation, Forensic, and Litigation Support Resource Group.
