Governor M. Jodi Rell Offers Official Proclamation at 100th Annual Meeting

At the 100th Annual Meeting on May 12, 2008, Governor M. Jodi Rell presented the following proclamation to the CSCPA, proclaiming May 12, 2008 at Certified Public Accountants Day in Connecticut.

Whereas, the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants (CSCPA) was formed by nine Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) one hundred years ago at New Haven's Union League Club; and

Whereas, the goals and objectives that these nine CPAs set forth are still valid today and include advocating for the profession, creating a community for its members, and fostering and satisfying a lifelong commitment to continuous education among those who belong to the organization; and

Whereas, the Certified Public Accountant is the professional recognized by the State of Connecticut to perform the attestation function, and thus makes a unique and invaluable contribution to the prosperity of our state and by extension, our country; and

Whereas, the CPA is also recognized as a preeminent business and financial advisor, playing a critical role in our economy whether working in public practice, private industry, government, or education; and

Whereas, one hundred years later and 6,000 members strong, the CSCPA is pausing to "Act for the Future While Celebrating the Past;" and

Whereas, the CSCPA is tremendously proud of its history, its growth, and its commitment to individual and organizational integrity and high professional and ethical standards and is equally optimistic about its future and the critical role that the Certified Public Accountant will continue to play in its second century of service to membership and public alike; and

Whereas, on May 12, 2008, the CSCPA will hold its 100th Annual Meeting to pay honor to its heritage, to assess the current state of the profession, and to anticipate the future; now

Therefore, I, M. Jodi Rell, Governor of the State of Connecticut, in recognition of the CSCPA as it celebrates this 100 year milestone, do hereby officially proclaim May 12, 2008, as Certified Public Accountants Day in the State of Connecticut.
