CSCPA ETF Pledges $15,000 to AICPA Accounting Doctoral Scholars Program
January 12, 2009
On January 9, 2009, the CSCPA Educational Trust Fund pledged $15,000 to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ Accounting Doctoral Scholars Program – a commitment of $3,000 annually for five years. The ETF’s donation makes the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants one of 37 state CPA societies to contribute to the program.
Last August, the Accounting Doctoral Scholars Program was announced as an ambitious program aiming to combat the continuing shortage of PhDs teaching accounting, auditing, and tax in the United States’ undergraduate and graduate accounting programs. Thirty-nine universities agreed to participate in the program’s first year, including the University of Connecticut.
The CSCPA Educational Trust Fund aims to “help tomorrow’s CPAs today,” distributing financial assistance to accounting students in high school, community college, undergraduate and graduate programs, and to students preparing to take the CPA Exam. Run on donations and proceeds from an annual golf tournament with the help of 10 trustees, the ETF distributed more than $90,000 in the 2007-2008 year alone.
