Dear Senator Daily and Representative Staples:
We are writing to express the gratitude of the 6,000-member Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants for the strong leadership and sound judgment demonstrated in your elimination of a proposed sales tax on tax preparation services from the General Assembly’s budget package.
This is no question a time of tough economic circumstances…and tougher decisions. We see this in our clients’ businesses, our employers’ organizations, and in our own firms and homes. A sales tax on tax preparation services would have proven to be – again – an administrative nightmare for tax return preparers and tax collectors alike, and would have no doubt proven most unpopular with constituents.
We will certainly apprise our membership of your careful consideration of – and your responsiveness to – our concerns for our clients, our employers, and our organizations.
Again, the Connecticut Society of CPAs thanks you.
Sincerely,
Arthur J. Renner, CPA
Executive Director
