Department of Revenue Services (DRS) enforcement agents today arrested the operator of a Hartford welding business for continuing to operate with a suspended sales tax permit.
Andrew W. Jarosz, 38, of Hebron was arrested at Jarosz Welding Co. Inc. on Ledyard St. in Hartford. Jarosz was charged with operating with a suspended sales tax permit. The permit was suspended after the business failed to resolve certain state tax liabilities.
Jarosz was released on a written promise to appear in the Hartford Superior Court on March 23, 2010.
Operating with a suspended sales tax permit is a class C misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment of up to three months, a fine of up to $500, or both.
DRS Commissioner Richard D. Nicholson said he hopes Jarosz’s arrest serves as notice to other businesses that DRS will take action to deal with those taxpayers who do not comply with state laws.
Commissioner Nicholson said, “DRS will aggressively pursue and prosecute individuals who do not adhere to state tax laws.”
