What Can CSCPA Do for Me?

The Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants is the only statewide professional membership association exclusively for CPAs, serving almost 6,000 individuals in public practice, business and industry, government, and education.

The CSCPA mission is to promote and support state CPAs through advocacy, community, and education. As a CSCPA member, you’ll have the opportunity to take advantage of a comprehensive collection of programs and services.

Advocacy.

  • Get Your Firm Listed in “Locate a CPA”
    Help potential clients find your firm by getting it listed in CSCPA’s Locate a CPA online search engine, which allows members of the general public to filter firms by location and services listed.
  • Protect the Profession Through Legislative Vigilance
    CSCPA fights for you at the Capitol. Recent victories include defeating a proposed sales tax that singled out CPA services, passing enhanced reciprocity legislation, and broadening Connecticut’s experience requirements for initial licensing.
  • Help Fix Our Future – The State Budget Crisis
    In response to the state’s dire fiscal situation, the CSCPA has rallied to assist Connecticut’s leaders in dealing with the unprecedented fiscal crisis facing the state. Members can join in the conversation and subscribe to news updates on our blog, CPAs: Accounting for Connecticut’s Future.

    Members enjoy exclusive discounts on professional needs including shipping, payroll processing, professional liability insurance, and more, in addition to personal perks such as discounted concert tickets, flowers and gifts, spa treatments, and travel!

  • Recruit Tomorrow’s CPAs Today
    CSCPA’s vigorous academic and student relations program reaches out to Connecticut’s classrooms, encouraging students to choose the CPA profession. Reach potential new hires by listing your firm in the CSCPA Accounting Major’s Guide to Connecticut CPA Firms, available to firms for a nominal fee.
  • Promote the Value of the CPA Profession
    CSCPA promotes the value of CPA services through proactive media relations, radio public service announcements, distribution of informational brochures, and advertisements in major transportation centers across the state highlighting CPAs making a difference for their clients and their communities.
  • Take Advantage of Career Services
    The online per diem directory matches CPAs looking for part-time or per diem employment with firms needing additional help. Potential employers may also access resumes of members and Pledges seeking employment. Unemployed members seeking work may place complimentary classified advertisements in Connecticut CPA magazine and online.

    Join a Committee
    Explore a niche and add value to your firm as you network with fellow CPAs, federal and state officials, legislators, students, and other professionals including attorneys and bankers. Get access to top-notch speakers and information. There’s a CSCPA committee or interest group to fit your needs and interests. 
  • See and Be Seen in Connecticut CPA Magazine
    Published bi-monthly, Connecticut CPA keeps you in touch. Each issue features CSCPA events and activities, member news and accomplishments, firm happenings, and articles written by members and industry experts.
  • Meet Up Online
    Members use the CSCPA website to register for CPE and events, connect through the member directory, track CPE credits, and more. We’ll also meet up with you on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn, sharing everything from breaking technical news to fun event photos!
  • Do Some Feel-Good Public Service
    Whether you’d like to help out with the annual CPA charity drives (so far we’ve collected food, coats, toys, school supplies, and items for the troops), teach a financial literacy workshop at a local high school, or host a student job shadow at your firm, you’ll find a way to give back to your community as a CSCPA member!
  • CHAT Through Member-to-Member Consulting 
    “CHAT” – Consulting, Helping, Assisting on Technical matters – connects you with other members to share expertise on tough technical questions.
  • Connect with New and Young Professionals
    The Society offers Pledge status to college students and recent graduates and organizes special events for these new and young professionals, including charity sports tournaments, happy hours, walk-a-thons, and more!
  • Emergency Assistance/Continuation.
    The Emergency Assistance and Emergency Continuation Plans provide assistance in the event death, incapacitation, or serious illness requires a practitioner or his/her family to seek continuation or the sale of a practice. You may register to have your name provided to practitioners requesting assistance.

Our extensive selection of live conferences and seminars feature a wide array of nationally known experts and home-grown industry leaders. Members are eligible for discounts on online and self-study programs, and we can also arrange for in-firm training to come to your staff members when and where you need it!
  • Check Out a Technical Session Close to Home
    Members rave about our CONNection meetings, a series of free two-hour morning technical sessions held throughout the year in Easton, Torrington, and Rocky Hill, and our Fairfield Personal Financial Planning meetings, held in Easton.
  • Meet Up for Dinner, Networking, and Knowledge
    Get to know the regulators and leaders in your industry, hear the latest news first-hand from the source, and earn CPE credit at one of our liaison dinners with the Internal Revenue Service, the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services, or the Valuation, Forensic, and Litigation Support Group.
  • Share Your Financial Literacy Smarts
    Visit a high school, college campus, or community group and teach a lesson from CSCPA’s Me, Myself, My Money financial literacy curriculum. Share your knowledge where it can make a difference to the next generation!   
  • Peer Review Program.
    CSCPA administers its Peer Review Program in coordination with the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA). Peer Review “Report Days” are a cost- and time-saving peer review option for sole practitioners who do not perform audits.
